Sleepless in Brisvegas

Let me start by admitting that I am fascinated by death and death related things. And, yes, I realise how morbid that sounds when you say it out loud. I just find that whole topic intriguing. Maybe because we know so little about what happens after, and because it is just so hard to grasp the absoluteness of it. Hard to comprehend that we could just suddenly cease existing.

If I could be anything I wanted, I would be a medical examiner. Ever since I was a little kid I always thought it would be an awesome job. I love problem solving, human biology, anything crime related and I can handle most gory things. So how better to combine my interests than performing autopsies for police (or similar) to solve suspicious deaths? However, having looked at how to get into this profession, I found I would have to finish my current degree/s then do another 4-yrs of medicine, then do an internship, then start specialising in pathology……by which time I would be close to 50. *sigh*

But I digress. The reason I confessed my warped fascination with mortality is because of my latest habit I am trying to break. I insist on purposely watching scary ghost footage and scaring the heck out of myself, and then not being able to sleep. And I just can’t stop myself.

I have always been curious about ghosts. When I lived in Sydney I used to frequent the Quarantine Station for their nighttime tours (scary as hell!).

And on more than one occasion I do actually believe I have seen a ghost, spirit or whatever. Twice I have quite clearly seen ghosts, and in close proximity. I have no other way to describe what I saw. As well as this, I get ‘ookie’ feelings in some places/houses. One house I used to live in I never felt settled in and often had scary dreams. I later found out another person who had lived in the same house had seen the ghost of a young girl in there before. But I try and leave the ghost whispering to Jennifer. She looks so much better on telly.

So my latest hobby is to go to you tube, find a scary, realistic ghost video and watch it, normally close to bedtime, and then as a result I get no sleep. Why, you ask? I have no idea! And I can’t stop myself. I know it’s going to freak me out, but I just go ahead and watch it! I am such a glutton for punishment.

So I thought I would share a few of my faves with you. Please, point out obvious flaws in them and prove to me they’re fake. Because I sure as hell hope they are!!

First off you have the ridiculous ones where some idiot covers their friend with a sheet, then screams at the end of the clip. You also have the potentially real ones, but ones which are more likely to be simply a bug crawling on a camera lens, such as this one:

Then you have the ones you can seem to find a flaw with, or reasonable explanation, like these. These are all from the same family about a ghost, ‘Mabel’, who is living in their house:

This is the worst one, and scares me just thinking about it:

Damn it, and now I’ve gone and scared myself silly again watching the videos to put in here! There goes sleeping tonight!

Hope you enjoyed these, and please comment and convince me they’re fake so I can sleep. Alternatively, share your ghostly experiences with me and help feed my morbid fascination.

  1. The vids from the family house are so faked.
The first one is very obviously the thing hanging behind the door. They just show it at the end, blurred by movement so it looks a bit like a face.
Also, the vid of the pantry door opening can easily be faked, as we cannot see the botom of the door. That’s where the person grabs it and opens it off camera, so it looks “spooky”.

  2. That sounds logical. Perhaps I will get some sleep tonight :)
